Wings of Glory

Guide was awesome, only improvement was how if we all had wings, we could totally fly to each spot on tour, should implement this for future tours.

Second time and loved it again!

Great food, interesting stories and fun tasting local beverages – soju, makgeolli… I would highly recommend!

From CNN:

And now, following the announcement from José Andrés and Eric Ripert, longtime friends of Tony and world-renowned chefs, that June 25 is 'Bourdain Day' — friends and fans of the late, great Anthony Bourdain will have a dedicated day to remember and celebrate the legend.
Although the anniversary of Bourdain's death is June 8, the celebratory day is what would be Bourdain's birthday. Andrés and Ripert made the declaration this morning via a Twitter video in which Ripert declared June a "very important month."

Celebrate Bourdain Day in Seoul

Back in 2014, we were tasked with putting together Anthony Bourdain's episode in Seoul, which ended up being his last time in South Korea. You can read about it here.

One of the most raved about places on that trip was Mapo Jeong Daepo, which does "Mapo-style" Korean BBQ, specializing in Galmegisal (Pork Skirt Meat). The crew ate there three times. This is still my favorite Korean BBQ joint in Seoul, and I go there almost three times each week on our BBQ tours.

All-you-can-consume?

I'm organizing this special get together to commemorate a man who has influenced us in so many ways. I'm asking for a $30 cover charge for all-you-can-consume (within reason). I likely will lose money on this, but profit isn't the point. I want to get together with fellow Bourdain devotees and celebrate his life. I'm just putting the cover charge on here so we won't have to split the bill. Whatever isn't covered, we'll just pick up.

If we have money left over, we will donate it to a suicide prevention charity.

The fine print

In order to pull this off, we need a minimum of five participants, maximum of 25. After having some BBQ, the night is ours to do with. There are great bars in this non-touristy part of Seoul.

Included in the price are the following:

  • Galmegisal (pork skirt meat)
  • Sogeum Gui (thick cut pork belly)
  • Beverages

Vegetarian noodles can be substituted. Vegan options are scant but possible.

The deadline for the minimum bookings will be June 24th. If we don't make the minimum, we will refund 100% of your money. If we have met the deadline, then we'll have cut-off at 12 p.m. June 25th, in order to make sure we have enough seats. Cancellations will follow our cancellation policy.

Come join us!

INTERESTING FACT: This is the same restaurant we introduced Anthony Bourdain to–which he loved.

Out of all districts in Seoul, Mapo is the best known for Korean BBQ. We dine at the epicenter of Mapo-style barbecue for some charcoal grilled pork, aged kimchi, and raucous atmosphere. We will then head to the Jeon (Korean Pancake) Market for some cool photos and take our secret entrance into a traditional pub to chill for the evening. Find out why this is not only one of the top things to do in Seoul. It’s one of the top things to do in Korea!

So, to break it down

  • Mapo-style pork BBQ
  • Korean pancake market
  • Korean pancakes and beverages at a traditional pub

Wear comfortable shoes and bring an ample appetite. The ticket price includes all food. It also includes alcoholic beverages (within reason). Non-alcoholic option is available.

All tours must be booked in advance, please. Tours with no bookings 24 hours ahead of time will be cancelled.
